  1. Woodland is an area in which trees grow more 
  2. or less thickly, generally smaller than a 
  3. forest. Temperate climates, with four 
  4. distinct seasons a year, tend to support a 
  5. mixed woodland habitat, with some conifers 
  6. but mostly broad-leaved and deciduous trees, 
  7. shedding their leaves in autumn and regrowing 
  8. them in spring. In the Mediterranean region 
  9. and parts of the southern hemisphere, the 
  10. trees are mostly evergreen.
